Meh... resets.... meh...

However maybe some of those completely abandoned star systems may end up getting closed off given that they were opened under less-than-ideal situations. I am sure I could arrange for them to be nuked out of existence if that helps.

If there is a desire for temporary games that reset occasionally, maybe there could be a volatile quadrant in the center that people can start from if they choose, but which occasionally gets wiped out entirely by predictable gravity-wave bursts every time a black hole spirals into the galactic core.

Realistically speaking, I'm not sure how devastating those would even be from a few lightyears away, I'm just using it as a mechanic for resetting a region of the galaxy for players who want rounds with an end in sight.

This game isn't mainstream. Its not as easy to use as simpler games. The UI is a little complicated. Orders are a little complicated. The grand idea of the game seems to work but it may not be as fun as it should be. A little too ambitious I think; It might work better if it was toned down in scale. It appeals to a small niche of gamer.

Popular games like this abuse our addiction for progression. Timers and skill ranks that can be leaned into for years like Astro Empires and Eve Online. Those games are also kind of hollow with no real payoff but at least its scratching a progression itch.

Weve talked it before but perhaps I can bring in a progression track based on political prestige. That stat could grant real power through laws and edicts in addiction to the end game way to increase your overall logistics. . But to increase your prestige means large megastructures, big titles and ruler-ship. I would like to find more things to chase that take increasingly progressive amount of money and time to acquire in order to push your prestige further.

I think the political prestige stuff is going to be priority right after this anomaly/exploration quest stuff falls into place.

I'm just making some wild guesses, this game has no micro transactions, is an original design, but only got around 130 active players (counting all corps above lvl 2 atm) while the game is up for like 3 years or something.
There is like a billion people (1.000.000.000) who are able to connect to this application, to me it looks like there must be something off than.
Coding wise this game is on the job, and when reading the concept of the game and all the details it feels really like where I would say this is definitely a game for me, but when I'm myself playing it it feels a bit hollow compared to the expectations my expectations have.
I'm also not really complaining about it, if people have a fun and great time and everything is working as far as it is intended there isn't really problem, I just really like to see a game without trying to make me change real currency for fake currency as its only purpose which appeals to me.
Also in my last reply I mentioned about big fish, but I mixed 2 concepts with each other, one big fish about people who want to leave their footprints, and other big fish which I actually referred to whales is what they call them among developers etc in the industry, people who spend a lot of micro transactions, and like really a lot

This game was not designed to be forward only progression. Everything that is built up can collapse and be destroyed. The only Progression that is permanent is your corp level. Cities and planets rise and fall, everything outside of Earth that is. Theoretically the more you progress the more resistance you get to progress further. The game was designed specifically to not need to be reset and to only ever be one server. However once you are in a different Sector, you are pretty much in a different server

I define myself as a Noob Player. I started months ago, and I LOVED the fact that the game had no resets. It was a challenge, and still it is, because you have Big Players as example or someone to "fear" or "learn", because every little step you do will be carried over... and if you do it right, IS NOT impossible to get closer to very old and huge companies or even cooperate with them!

I don't get the point for a game like this one to have like others a "reset function" because the economy itself adapts to the player base, and players actions.

I don't think I would start over if the game resets... Not because I don't want the challenge. But because has no point, for the way the game it is right now... :-)

Just my opinion.

My experience with this game is that if there is peace, it isn't difficult to become a "big fish". There have been many examples in this game's history of innovators and leaders that rise to the top. I don't think many people care about being a big fish though. There are some that like city building, some that like exploring and interacting with the game, some that like creating fun/entertaining content, and some that like interacting with the community. These things and perhaps others would be limited in periodic server resets.

In fact, if you want, you could start your own "server reset" league within this game if you found enough support. Organize some standards, convince some people to give this league control of sector 7, Gilliam (one star system), set a game turn to start, and go.
edited by LunaMoth on 6/15/2018

My experience with these kind of things is that you always see a large influx of returning players once everything has reset so that everyone has once again the same chances (opportunities to become apex), also one example is a person who just player it one week a few months ago, than for example gets an announcement inside his mail that the game is going to start over again, and might think this is my chance to become the big fish in this game.

The sad concept about the majority of these web browser like games is to give the player the illusion that it is in the opportunity to become the greatest legend of all time, he or she is in the chance of making history, of course this is bound with micro transactions iynwim.
It's a whole business industry, and psychological studied strategy to give the chances/illusion to one player to feel special in her/his life for once, just like 'everyone' dreams to be famous for example.
The truth is the reason I play this game for example is yes I want to be the big fish or like I want to spread my influence, and I bet everyone who play it does it for that exact same reason, maybe that's even the concept of the game.
But there are different approaches to this, you could exploit this concept what people are thriving for like most of these companies do, and milk them like cattle while keeping the illusion, and keep people in the spending habit because they invested already a ton in it, or create situations where people want to satisfy the need for revenge, and money can fix that for you. (people will swim whole oceans for the feeling and need of revenge if they can, and many developers and their shareholders know this)
You can make a lot of money by just poking for big fish.
So I don't understand with this game which is an original idea, with no micro transactions has such a low player base.
But to tell the truth from my perspective I wouldn't recommend this game to my friends for example because it's that 'mainstream fun', maybe this could be because of the low player count which doesn't create sufficient content, I don't know, to me it's just I like to work with spreadsheets and I don't like micro transactions and constantly reminding me that I could become the big legend.( I can work with spreadsheets if this extends my influence on grid in this game, not because I have a passion for clicking on my mouse in particular)

But anyway the reason for resetting a server shouldn't be always to correct mistakes from the past, it can also give a game a new fresh start, like a board game, if it's fun you can play it over and over again, everyone wants to take its chances to win it this time, and you gain experience from it when a game is over, not everything is lost.(if you have spend real $$ than it's a different story yes)

And like every new server reset also new developed game mechanics are implanted (rules) which gives each new game an extra fresh start and new beginning and new opportunities to exploit.

Tbh the corps who exploited game mechanics besides salvaging are gone. Gone are the corps who hit it big during broken events of the early days.

The quest initiative is a good step forward, but perhaps something the game has involved into is the idea of how high can a city or system grow before it pops.

Closing the least populated systems would go a long way in putting the game's best step forward.

There is something to be said for the fact that earlier in the year there were problems that made some corps a kagillion credits which have been somewhat mitigated now. Also the expansion problem which helps break the game. A "reset" doesn't sound so terrible but I wouldn't want to wipe-out all the players like that. I also don't want to make new server after new server like Astro Empires does. I would rather get good fixes to existing problems and let everything correct itself

Hopefully if I tweak demand and fix salvage exploit. You wont be able to make 1 bill a week running at 400% logistics. THEN find a neat way to spend 1 billion to get a chance at super rare ships via crazy quest or mechanic and watch all the big corps come back to normal =)

Ermm I know that you would lose core members of this community. This would completely destroy the rich history that we have within the game. However, it would require much shorter build times in order to progress effectively throughout the game. I vehemently oppose this idea.

I think it would be a practical idea to reset the game after certain amount of turns(?) for the game experience and have a scoreboard for those who won the finished game runs in terms of power(?)
Each new game run will be differently generated; resource locations, maybe even planets and their cities.
Based on paid player base the universe will expand it's borders on where allowed to settle, example; each premium player will open an additional SOL to travel+settle.
Unpaid player base can settle anywhere on the starter SOL, in case of to overcrowding of starter SOL; additional SOL unlocked for unpaid players.

Exploits I can currently think of or unintended side effects: multi-accounts and their influence on the game grid

Just throwing in a wild guess.^

Additional gameplay,
Finding opportunities for expeditions while exploring to find special military units which have significant reduced upkeep cost or whatever one time things to find.
.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-| .|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|.|-|
