I know this has been discussed before but are there any plans to implement the option to give orders to orbital guns? Just the guard list would do...as it stands the gun would only protect my assets, guard guild, location and corporation would be very useful

I'm considering giving them a "mode" they can be in for , None, Guild, Everyone. Which will make them show up to fights even if your unit isn't there. The "Guard/escort/guild but guild mate is attacking my base, while my fleet is escorting his group which side do the guns go on?" gets a little tricky. I want to do the same thing for Starbases also. Since the logic for the guns following your units seems to be acting correctly I can try to add this other layer to it. The raiders will be PISSED! =)

I think by default it should always back the owners units even if they are escourting... Guard entire location would still work (as i have done in the past and destroyed my own units) if player corps and pve corps can be recognised by the gun as different ie- a corp attacks raiders on Gul 7, gun idealy would not defend the raiders. i have no idea if this is possible edited by jimbobdaz on 6/8/2018

Thats an example of where it gets a little tricky. I can declare certain NPC corps as Hostile, but then there might be a situation when you'll have those corp on your side in some event.
You already cant attack yourself and there is a lot of checks to make sure you don't do that sort of thing, that's why the orbital guns are linked as a support unit to your existing attacks. You might have a legitimate corp as an enemy you're fighting in one place that gets attacked by someone else, even Raiders, in another location and your guns are set to Defend Everyone and do.
The only full solution is to maintain your own list of who is your friend and who isn't. Not to complicated since your guild is one line and "hostile NPCs" is another. Then a few more for whoever you are at war with, perhaps entire guild. If you had a list like that then it would be much easier to make things like Defending OGuns, Bases and even comm./alarms when enemies enter your area. You can auto attack corps in your location too. Its a little hard on the system to track all this all the time but might be possible.

I like the idea of a list, would this be possible for warp gates? so it would work as a list of corps banned from using the gate. Would be interesting to have an enemy corp warp in to attack and then find themselves crawling home with enemy fleets warping towards them

Yes, with a full blown hate list (yeah I called it a "Hate List") We can control gates also. Maybe even get fancy and give it a "Level of Hate:" or maybe a few checkboxes, so You can set someone as "No Trade", "No Gate", "At War" i.e. Attack On Sight, "No Escort".
Would need a simple interface for that, maybe on company list page, another page like assets but it shows all the settings other corps have against that corp also.
It would be great if you banned a warp gate, then the guy decided to capture it and use it =)

That would tie in nicely with DrDread's capture ideas.

I don't know if this is allready done, but may a "protect planetary assets" order an idea? Every attack against player structures is by default an act of agression?
So to say, only the owner of the orbital gun is actually allowed to attack player structures on that planet, without the orbital gun showing up at least. maybe also the planet leader, emperor was it I think. later on that may even include a city leader voting system for branding a corp as legitimate attack target on the planet for idk how many rounds.
It might also be a idea to add an check for "protect millitary assets" again, only player military may be protected... But that one might need a "hate list" I love that term, ehem...
