So sorry, one typo caused that. I'm giving everyone another chunk of money, 20 million and I'm going to drop the construction queue times of whatever you have queued up later tonight. Everyone start upgrading and building big stuff =)

I can't make them "build" over time but what I was considering making them start at 1% damage and have to repair themselves to full. Similar thing but would prevent people from dropping 20 level 1 defenses into a combat zone in an attempt to win the fight.

It's a lot of complication for the time delay though. Making you have to get a base or shipyard up first is a good enough of a delay. We don't want attacking with defenses to be a thing

Sure, On the side where it normally displays level one times. Just have it change with the starting level you select. I'll work on that.

i have a question with all the items and products that you can make and produce. is there an actual use for every item or you just sell them?

like for example if you make lets say sunglasses or a hover board or a powercell what do these items do? and is there a section somewhere in game that gives a description and specifics of every single item and their uses?

The products are technically just products to be sold. They are essentially identical. There are different tiers of products that "play" differently such as the farming and ranching products are simple products that don't combine into anything and are just sold like a simple market game,. The metals and chemicals etc. can be combined into a 2nd tier of products called components. The play on those is a little different because you have to bring certain amounts of specific resources to one factory to build them. The end products are similar as they take sets of components but its difficult for one corporation to manufacture everything needed. There is a difference between the products in the same category that isn't really displayed. The lower units in a category appeal the lower class populations and the higher ones generally towards the higher class populations, This is what makes the Volume different across different products in the same city. The 9 different populations, the 9 colored bars on the overview screen, affect the volume of different products. Its subtle and it's not even displayed anywhere.

The REAL DIFFERENCE between the products however is when it comes to events geared towards different categories of products, we don't have any in place yet but have dozens written up vaguely. The idea is that, since the products are all technically the same and equal that you should pick a category of products that sound fun to you. The reason why is that the events that go against the product categories will have an appropriate flavor to them. For example, Events that involve contraband will be things like terrorism, wars between cities and smuggling that you will need to do or at least vote on. If you 're into Industrial Machinery then you'll get Union or strike oriented events with bargaining voting . Construction materials will get engineering type of events such as "The city X is collapsing after an earthquake, need xyz of different products dumped at locations to save it"

It appears that the price listed in demand is only for when you're selling the item & there is no way to see what the price is when you want to buy. I bought 1,399 units for 106,324 credits; 76 credits each, however the listed demand price is 41. Am I missing something that will show you the price to buy, or is it a bug, or is the buy price just some random amount higher than what the demand price is?

The buy price is always double what the sell price is. Its not listed anywhere. That number has changed over time but it will probably stay at double. We should probably show that on the Buy/sell tab

I would love to do stuff like that. I promised myself I would get all the "boring" mechanical aspects of the game working first. The Spreadsheets in space, bean counting, upgrade progress type of stuff. Then when that's moving smoothly I would get into Events and "quests" which some would say is the "fun" part. I wanted the game to have both sides to it. The mathematical business side and a space opera roleplaying side.. Through the voting system and the power being fluid depending on what the event is, theres a lot of opportunity to do some fun political things with or against the other players.
.. just need more TIME! =)

I plan to establish a farming operation on the moon of Odegard Va. My intentions are peaceful, and my fleet will insure it remains that way. I plan to ship needed and uncontested foodstuffs to the first city of Odegard V to help it prosper as well. However I do not recognize the authority of the Odegard Association and I will not seek any official right of claim on a free system. Furthermore, if the attacks against our corporation from the "Core" corporations don't abate back on earth then reprisals will begin to happen out here where the Terran Federation offers no protection.

Nice use of your own "push construction queues" to manufacture a fleet out of nowhere. Begs the question of why bother playing let alone potentially subscribing to a game administered in such a fashion.

I'm sorry which one of your 4 accounts working together to attack people are you posting this from? =)
We're in an Alpha test, here's some things to consider:

  • I pushed construction queues for everyone, I'm probably going to do the same thing every couple days to accelerate the game. We're not going to test for a year
  • I don't need to push the queues to get ships, I can make anything I like through an admin screen. All but two destroyers in my fleet is legitimate and I'm not even playing hard.
  • I need to be "In Game", I'm the developer and the one who needs to see things working from the player side.
  • I'm letting you take Odegard V because I need to see the voting system work with actual players. But I also need to take a city to see it work from the other side. We're testing!
  • The game will end in a couple more weeks once I see a few more quests get up and working and we go to an open beta with a Kickstarter
  • You're probably going to get a free account for all your help =)

You were sent an email telling you were testing an Alpha version of a game, you know you're testing everything, I also develop and host games, not for a living but for fun with friends. From D&D to board games, all my life. I'm not a small indie studio, I'm one guy doing this for fun as a hobby. It's not possible for me to make this game with limitations like that. We're not going to test for 3 months at a time in ALPHA where so far we're dramatically changing the entire game every 2 weeks (which was expected). I also don't expect it to make much money at all. This game is far from mainstream and might have been a 1 million player popular like 10 years ago. Like you mention, the browser market is so saturated nothing can get anywhere unless you have 40 million dollar advertising budget and Kate Upton half naked in a super bowl commercial licking her lips if you buy in game gold. My budget has been a couple thousand dollars total. I'm shooting for 1000 players with enough income to keep the game going and a handful of people having fun playing it. You're invited to come join us =)

City Ruler voting

The election is open for 100 turns, but since it found no eligible Corporations there it canceled immediately. The only people who can be elected are the ones that have their Corp HQ there but anyone with industry located there has a vote. All that information is grabbed at the moment the event starts.
I have a feeling the vote launched on the same turn the city was created which made it impossible for anyone to have an HQ there. If the city already had a ruler and this was a re-election than it wouldn't be a problem but when the city has no ruler and no Corp HQs present the event comes and goes in a single turn.

I should allow the event to stand for the 100 turns and then close, even though no one could be elected or maybe make the first stage of the event be a "Election coming soon" for 100 turns and then "initiate" it where it grabs the Corp HQs and industry at the location and sets up the vote. That would give people time to actually move their Corp HQs there and be eligible to be elected instead of making it a "surprise" election that you can't get into unless you were already there when it happened

For now, the event will try again in 100 turns.

ALPHA testing guys =)
The rulership event detects a city with no ruler and launches the event. But in the situation where a city was newly formed, the event launches immediately with no Corp HQs or eligible ruler possible and then cancels itself immediately. I didn't test it that way so I didn't see this outcome. If this was already an established city with Corp HQs present it would of run normally for 100 turns. It will run against that city again in 100 turns and we should see a normal election but the event needs to be reworked.

The event should probably do a "Election is happening in 100 turns" as the first stage. Then do a stage 2 where it initiates the Election with the industry and Corp HQs that are there at the time, if no one is there then it fails like it did and closes. If not then allow people to vote on a ruler for the next 100 turns.

Re-Elections will happen once a week (1000 turns), unless for whatever reason we lose the ruler (moves his Corp HQ, Kills account etc.) the system will detect a city with no ruler and launch the process immediately.

I do plan to provide a variety of crops to the new city, even choosing crops that don't compete with your own and even if the price is already low. Our intent is in line with the Odegard Association to help the first cities of the new system prosper but we do so independent of any outside groups influence.

Mechanics of Rulership

Doctor Dread
Doctor Dread

Since there is going to be a vote on the first city ruler in the Alpha game later today I think its a good time to discuss the mechanics of ruler ship and ask for your opinions. The rule ship event is going to be re-worked slightly anyway.

Hers how it's being implemented currently:

When a city outside of the Sol system has no ruler an event is immediately launched to elect one. The eligible corporations are the ones who have their Corp HQs in that city and the voters are anyone who has any industry in that city. Your voting power, how much weight your vote counts for, is how much industrial output you have at that location.

Currently the system gathers eligible candidates, voters and their voting power the moment the event starts, this is going to be changed so that the event will start with a "Upcoming vote for election in this city in 100 turns" stage. Then when that 100 turns is up, it will launch a second stage where it gathers the candidates and voters at that location at that time and setups up the vote. That vote will last for 100 turns after which the winner becomes ruler. An election happens every 1000 turns (approximately one week real-time) unless the ruler vanishes, kills account, moves CorpHQ or gets elected elsewhere then the system will launch the election event when it detects the vacancy next turn.

I am considering adding military power to your voting power but that's shaky because your army is transient. It would be unfair, or perhaps a good idea, that everyone bring their military into the location to gain more voting power. kind of like a military parade. That could make a large pirate corp with no structures in the system come in and take an election though. Perhaps instead the military forces of the CANDIDATES are included in their voting power and regardless of where their force is. That makes a lot more sense as the rulers need to have military might and it also will give the candidates more voting power than the other industrial people at the location. It also makes it possible for a heavy military but low industry corporation become a ruler if they are commited to moving their corporation HQ there.

On the planetary level (the planetary ruler event isn't in place yet FYI) The eligible candidates are the city rulers on the planet in question and the voters are anyone with industry on the planet. A planetary ruler election will only happen when 3 or maybe 5 city rulers are in place on a planet. The elected planetary ruler gives up their city ruler ship position to become planetary emperor. You can only have one rulership position. The military power of the candidates should probably be added to their voting power

The Star Lord event works the same way but the candidates are the Planetary rulers after at least 3-5 have been put in place. (Star systems would need to be coded to have a minimum of 5 planets also). with the voters being everyone in the star system. Again the military power of the candidates should probably be considered in their voting power.

The major advantage of leadership is gaining income based on the city population of the city, planet or system you rule over. You will also be expected to react or organize against the events that come to bear on your chosen realm. There is an idea that we make ruler ship gives you significant extra voting power in any event within your City, Planet, or System.

The move order shows a list of cities for the planet you are on because that's a common destination but for anything else you can use the "find on map" button. It will take you tot he viewscreen and have a giant red button across the top, if you click it when its red it means you will cancel. You can zoom into any location you want, or zoom out and go into another planet. When you zoom in all the way into a specific location or city, the button will turn green. When You click I when its green it takes you back to your orders screen and populates the coordinates (hard to see over on the right side) then click "Add this order". The Interface isn't spectacular right now but it works =)

i tried to do what you mentioned above but i keep getting this message >>>There has been an Error with the website

Please try again in a few moments or contact us as at:
drdread@baronsofthegalaxy.com

also when i try to zoom in to the planet i just see stars and not closeup of ths planet or cites

... are you on a mobile phone? There's a problem when you're on mobile and zoomed in at all on the viewscreen, the point and click goes all wonky. You have to be zoomed out (on the phone) for it to pick up where you are tapping correctly. It's something I don't have an easy fix for yet. Not sure if it happens on ipad also. If you are, try to pinch zoom all the way out and try again. If you have this happening in a normal computer browser like Chrome or IE than I need to know which unit you're trying to give orders too and Ill try it myself.

We're going to hand everyone a ton of cash, probably 500 million credits and we're going to start dropping all the your upgrade and constructions queues to 1 turn every night to accelerate the Alpha test. We would like to see how the expansion in the system plays out and try to work some fixes to it.

We only plan to do the Alpha test game for another week or so while we make some more fixes and then we're going to restart the game to o do an Open Beta where everyone can play.
